Choose Your Fast

Fasting is a personal expression of surrender and devotion to God. As you seek Him, prayerfully choose a fast that is appropriate for your spiritual goals and physical health. If you have a medical condition, please consult your physician before beginning a food-related fast.

Selective Fast

A selective fast involves removing specific foods or drinks from your diet for a period of time. One of the most common examples is the Daniel Fast, where participants refrain from meat, sweets, processed foods, and bread while focusing on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, water, and natural juices.

This fast emphasizes simplicity, self-discipline, and dependence on God rather than personal cravings.

Partial Fast

Often referred to as the Jewish Fast, a partial fast limits eating during certain hours of the day. For example, you may fast from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or from sunrise until sunset, using the fasting period to devote extra time to prayer, Scripture reading, and worship.

Complete Fast

A complete fast typically involves abstaining from all food while drinking water. Some individuals may include clear liquids or natural juices, depending on personal health needs and spiritual guidance.

The focus of this fast is complete dependence on God while seeking His direction, strength, and intervention.

Soul Fast

A Soul Fast is especially helpful for those who cannot fast food due to health reasons or for anyone who senses that certain habits or distractions have taken too much of their attention.

During a Soul Fast, you may choose to abstain from activities

such as:

  • Social media
  • Television or streaming services
  • Video games
  • News or unnecessary media
  • Non-essential internet use

Instead, intentionally replace those activities with prayer, worship, reading Scripture, journaling, and quiet time with God.

The goal is not simply to give something up, but to make more room for God's presence and allow Him to reshape our hearts and priorities.

A Final Encouragement

As we begin these 21 days together, remember that fasting is not about earning God's favor—it is about drawing closer to Him. Come with humility, expectancy, and a willing heart. Trust that as you seek the Lord, He will strengthen your faith, renew your spirit, and reveal Himself in fresh and powerful ways.
